2017 plans develop

After further meetings yesterday with Gladstone Mayor Matt Burnett and The Gladstone Yacht Club we are excited to confirm that with Gladstone Regional Council support, plans for a Welcome 'Yachties' function are now locked in and progressing well.

The event will take place on Easter Sunday at the Gladstone Yacht Club, commencing with breakfast at 7am and live music from mid-morning until late. There will be family friendly activities and depending on the weather, the official presentation of trophies will take place throughout the day.

It is also planned to bring more Yachts back into the Creek, rafting as many as possible on extended floating pontoons and potentially also opposite O'Connell Wharf.

The traditional carton of beer and medallion presented to each Yacht on arrival at the finish line will continue and we thank Gladstone VMR and SES for their ongoing support.

The Mayor is in the process of personally inviting approximately 120 Skippers to join our 69th event next year in the lead up to our 70th race in 2018.

With the significant history of both the Brisbane to Gladstone and the Sydney to Hobart Yacht races, it's certainly exciting to anticipate plans for a S2H / B2G double in 2018. Watch this space.

The Brisbane to Gladstone has a proud history but more importantly an exciting future.
